Depression and anxiety look different for everyone.

For some people, depression shows up as persistent low mood, loss of interest, or feeling like nothing matters. For others, it’s more like exhaustion that no amount of sleep fixes, or a quiet sense that life is just going through the motions.

Anxiety can look like constant worry that won’t turn off, physical tension, difficulty sleeping, or avoiding things you know you should do because the dread feels too heavy. For some people, it hides behind high achievement: still getting everything done while your mind won’t quiet down underneath it. If that sounds familiar, see our dedicated page on high-functioning anxiety.

Whatever form it takes for you, the research is clear: these conditions respond well to treatment. Our therapists are trained specifically in the approaches that work best for depression and anxiety, and they receive close clinical supervision on every case.

You might relate to some of these…

  • Persistent low mood, emptiness, or loss of interest in things you used to enjoy
  • Worry or dread that feels constant or hard to control
  • Avoiding situations, people, or responsibilities because of anxiety
  • Difficulty sleeping, low energy, or trouble concentrating
  • Feeling like a burden, or like things will never get better
  • Physical symptoms of anxiety — racing heart, shallow breathing, tension
  • Functioning on the outside while feeling hollow on the inside

Targeted treatment, not just support.

There’s a difference between feeling heard and actually getting better. Attune therapists are trained in treatments with strong research bases for depression and anxiety — approaches that teach you specific skills, change patterns of thinking and behavior, and produce measurable results.

We measure your symptoms every session using the PHQ-9 (depression) and GAD-7 (anxiety). That means you and your therapist can see your progress in real data — and catch early if something isn’t working so we can adjust.

“We track outcomes from session one so you never have to wonder whether therapy is working.”

Evidence-based treatments used

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) — the gold standard for depression and anxiety
  • Behavioral Activation — rebuilding momentum and engagement with life
  • Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) — for anxiety, OCD, and avoidance
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) — loosening the grip of anxious thoughts
  • Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) — emotion regulation and distress tolerance skills
  • PHQ-9 and GAD-7 measured every session to track real progress

Take the Anxiety Check-In

Depression and anxiety, answered.

Is CBT effective for anxiety and depression?

Yes. CBT is one of the most heavily researched treatments in mental health and is considered a first-line treatment for both anxiety and depression. It works by helping you identify and shift the thought patterns and behaviors that keep symptoms going, rather than just talking through how you feel.

How long does therapy for anxiety or depression usually take?

It varies by person, but many clients start noticing meaningful shifts within 8-12 weekly sessions, especially with structured approaches like CBT. Because we track your PHQ-9 and GAD-7 scores every session, you and your therapist will have real data on your progress rather than having to guess.

Can therapy help with anxiety even if I’m still functioning well at work or school?

Yes. This is one of the most common patterns we see. High-functioning anxiety can go untreated for years because it doesn’t visibly interfere with performance, even though it takes a real toll.

What’s the difference between sadness and clinical depression?

Sadness is a normal, temporary emotional response to a specific situation. Clinical depression is a more persistent pattern, typically lasting two weeks or more, of low mood, loss of interest, and other symptoms (like changes in sleep, energy, or concentration) that interfere with daily life. A therapist can help you figure out which you’re experiencing and what kind of support fits.
